Be the Solution to Ocean Pollution

“Be the Solution to Ocean Pollution” Earth Day 2013

Come join Children Sports International for our 2nd annual Beach Clean-Up for Earth Day in Venice Beach. Your participation in our beach clean-up helps preserve our beautiful oceans from pollution and Inspires Change in the local community.

We appreciate your support and Earth thanks you too! Here is a brief overview of our upcoming beach clean-up event on April 21st. The clean-up event will start at 10am and end at 2pm. Feel free to stay just a few hours or the entire duration. At 10am, we will have a speaker to discuss the importance of maintaining the coastline and the impact trash and debris can cause to the local environment and its inhabitants. We also offer community service learning credit for any student who needs it. Plus, throughout the event, we will be conducting fitness demonstrations for kids and adults to introduce you to our youth sports performance program and provide information on how you can get involved as a coach.

Last year, “Be the Solution to Ocean Pollution” was the popular, fun and highly visible series of community events held at Venice Beach and Long Beach. The inaugural beach clean-up was held on Earth Day and continued over the summer. Close to 300 volunteers have helped inspire change and make the community beach clean-up events a local success. Families, businesses and school groups from all over the city dedicated more than 2,700 hours collectively over the past 6 months while collecting more than 300 pounds of trash and harmful debris from the coastline.

What to Wear and Bring
You should always wear sunscreen and a hat. You need to wear closed-toe shoes, to make sure you don’t step on anything sharp, and make sure to bring a reusable water bottle. We will provide all the clean-up supplies, however, we also encourage volunteers to bring reusable garden gloves or buckets from home to reduce the amount of trash we create during the cleanup.
How to Stay Safe
Sometimes at beach cleanups we find sharp or dangerous items. Never pick up anything that looks like it could be medical waste or broken glass, any kinds of needles or weapons, or any dead animal. Alert your cleanup captain or a lifeguard.  Don’t approach any wild animal, even if it seems sick or injured.
We would like to thank everyone for their dedication and support! We hope to see you at the beach April 21st for Earth Day 2013.
